At Am-Can Business & Tech Institute, we recognize that traditional semester schedules do not meet the needs of every student. We operate on a Continuous Intake Model, meaning students are not bound by standard September or February start dates.
Enrollment: Official enrollment for our inaugural academic year begins on July 30, 2026.
Course Start Dates: Classes officially commence in September, 2026. Following this date, students may register and begin an online OSSD credit course on any day of the year.
Course Duration: Once enrolled, students are granted a standard period (typically 10 to 12 months) to complete their course at a pace that suits their individual learning needs.
The Ontario Ministry of Education requires that all credit courses provide a minimum of 110 hours of planned instruction. Because our courses are delivered via a flexible, asynchronous e-LMS, "instructional hours" are measured differently than in a traditional classroom.
To fulfill this requirement, a student's active participation is tracked through:
Time spent reading course materials and watching instructional videos.
Completion of interactive learning modules and quizzes.
Participation in discussion forums.
Time spent preparing and submitting assignments and major projects.
In a self-paced, online environment, regular "attendance" translates to consistent academic engagement. Am-Can Business & Tech Institute's e-LMS automatically tracks student logins, page views, and activity duration.
Student Expectations:
Students are expected to log into the techstudy.ca portal and engage with their coursework regularly (ideally multiple times per week) to ensure steady progress.
Prolonged gaps in login activity will flag the student’s profile for review by our academic support team.
Consistent engagement is crucial for instructors to evaluate a student's progress and provide timely feedback in accordance with the Ministry’s Growing Success guidelines.
For students taking advantage of our hybrid learning model, on-site support, tutoring, and collaborative spaces are available at our Vaughan campus.
Our physical campus is open and operating between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm on any normal school day (Monday - Friday).
While on-campus attendance is not strictly mandatory for completing online course modules, students attending the physical campus must adhere to the scheduled hours and sign in at the administration desk upon arrival.
To ensure students remain on track for success, Am-Can Business & Tech Institute enforces an inactivity policy.
15 Days of Inactivity: If a student does not log into the e-LMS or submit any coursework for 15 consecutive days, the instructor or administration will send a check-in email to the student and their parent/guardian.
30 Days of Inactivity: After 30 days of no activity, a formal warning will be issued, and a meeting may be requested to establish a re-engagement plan.
60+ Days of Inactivity: If a student remains completely inactive for 60 consecutive days without prior approval or a documented medical/personal accommodation, they may be administratively withdrawn from the course. Reinstatement may require a formal appeal and an administrative fee.
We understand that life events, illnesses, or travel may temporarily interrupt a student's studies. Because of our flexible model, students do not need to report short absences (e.g., being away for a few days due to a cold).
However, if a student anticipates a prolonged absence (exceeding 14 days) due to medical issues, travel, or other significant personal circumstances, they must notify the Office of the Principal or their instructor in writing to prevent their account from being flagged for inactivity.
